Welcome to Elm Class
The grown ups in our class are:
Miss Kelly - Class Teacher
Mrs Margrove - Early Years Practitioner
Mrs Leete - Learning Support Assistant
Mrs Ali-Shah - Teaching Assistant (Wednesdays and Fridays)
Our PE days are Thursdays. Please make sure your child has their PE kit on this days.
All children will have the opportunity to visit the library once a week to change their book. Please make sure your child has their library book on their daily reader day.
We have a whole school sharing assembly on a Friday. During this assembly we celebrate birthdays from that week, stars of the week and share achievement certificates.
Each morning your child can change their reading book with you. Please carefully choose the correct coloured book for your child. Your child can then place their green reading record with their NEW reading book inside their corresponding basket ready to be stamped.
Learning this week
Last week the children really took their learning into their own hands. Our underwater theme for the week almost became entirely about sharks, though during story time we also enjoyed stories about whales, octopuses and other sea animals. A big thank you to Elizabeth, Lauren and Edward who brought in books to support our topic. This gave the children a real sense of ownership over their learning, not to mention all the ideas they used in their writing. On Monday the children asked if we could make our own class shark book (similar to the one the children in Elm Class made last year) We spent the week drawing different sharks using pastels. Bella, Luca and Joshua M spent a long time at this task. The children then wrote facts about them. I will put the finished book out each morning for you all to look at. This close to the end of term, I was amazed at the quality of their writing!
Transition day went well and we spent the hour exploring our new classroom and outdoor area. The children also thought about what areas of learning and resources they would like to see in Hazel Class next year - my task is now to make sure I can track down everything they asked for wish me luck!
This week we are going to continue to follow the children's interests and after a spat of kite making prompted by Laya, we are going to be following instructions to make a different type of kite.
As the end of term draws near, we shall have a party but before that can happen the children will need to write letters home to tell you when it will be (Thursday) and what they need to bring in to wear (beach clothes). This will give the children a real purpose to write and hopefully motivate them through the tiredness that is starting to hit some of the children.
