What are we learning:
Welcome back. We hope you have all had a wonderful half term.
We are starting this week as we mean to go on with Feeling good week! It is so important that children build up the life long skills of how to take care of their mind and body. This week is all about teaching the children strategies that they can use to help achieve this.
Each day we will have a different theme and complete activities around this:
Monday: Creative me (special drawings for display)
Tuesday: Mindful me (pancake related activities)
Wednesday: Healthy me (making healthy food)
Thursday: Active me (Sports for champions visit)
Friday: Together we are Strathmore (FGW cafe)
Phonics this week will be even more active than it is normally! Every day we will be getting our hearts beating whilst we read and write words. This is what we will be focusing on:
Alternative pronunciations : i, o, c, g, u
Tricky words for spelling: little, one, do, when, what, out
Also don't forget our special E-safety assembly on Wednesday 26th at 2pm. The children will be sharing with you what we have been learning about in concern to E-safety. This will be followed by a very interesting professional presentation. It will also be repeated at 7pm that evening.
Don't forget to go to:
to play games linked to the sounds we are learning.
This weeks learning:
The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit from Dave the owl man and he was so impressed with their behaviour and attitude he actually commented on it on his social media page:
Very well done to all of year one for representing the school so well.
We have had a very creative week this week, decorations day was full of cheer (and glitter!) and we got to see a sneaky preview of our xmas tree entry! The Christmas tree festival is going to be held this weekend at the Holy Saviour Church. Why not go and give it a visit and remember to vote for Strathmore!
This week our timetable will change slightly in order to fit in with all of our xmas events. We will be making our Christmas cards and calendars during the week as well as learning more about the first Christmas. Mrs Turner will also be finishing off the fantastic instruments that the children have been making in music. They look very impressive so far.
In Maths we will be learning all about money. The children will at first learn to recognise each coin and the amount that it represents. They will then move on to finding different totals when adding money together. What coins can you find around the house? What number problems can you think of using these coins? For example "I went to the shop with my 5p but the apple I wanted was 7p how much more do I need?"
We will be learning the new graphemes: oy, ir, ue, aw
Tricky words: Mr, Mrs, looked, called, asked
Look! A book!
The book box is looking lovely and full up in the moment :-)
We would love to make it even more festive! Do you have any books about Christmas that you could donate?
