Year One Maple

The adults in Maple class are:

PE is on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please make sure your child has plain dark shorts, a white T-shirt and a pair of plimsolls. In the colder weather jogging bottoms should be included for when we are a doing PE outside.

We go to the school library on a Friday. 

Your child can choose either a fiction or non-fiction book to take home. Please encourage your child to change their book when you have shared it together at home. 

Show and tell is on a Monday

Homework:

Is given out on Friday in a folder. It needs to be completed by the following Thursday at the latest, returned in the folder and placed in the green tray which is located next to the reading record tray.

Forest Schools: 

Happens fortnightly usually on a Tuesday afternoon in Maple class.  Your child will need a change of clothes that you don't mind getting muddy, a pair of wellies or old trainers, a waterproof coat and a spare bag for dirty boots, all of which needs to be in a bag on your child's peg.

Harvest-time

We have talking about harvest-time and looking at different grains and seeds. One member of Maple Class harvested a sunflower from their garden and brought it in to show us. The children examined the flower and used it to create their own paintings.

Kidney beans, lentils and pumpkin seeds have been used to make a harvest collage. Some of us chose to create a sunflower.

A big thank you for all the "Autumn Plates" that we received. We enjoyed sharing them and we think they look great!

Arts Fortnight

We looked at Van Gogh's 'Starry Night" painting.
We had a go at creating our own paintings.
The children worked really hard to recreate the swirls that Gogh used in his painting.

Pattern and line

The children used different lines and patterns to create a symmetrical butterfly.

The children had a go, I think you will agree, their paintings were just as impressive!
The children learned how to tell a story through traditional Indian dance.

Shrove Tuesday and Chinese new Year

We weighed and mixed the ingredients
We poured the batter
We cooked the pancake
We had a go at tossing the pancakes!
Then we ate them!
We made noodles.
We had a go at using chopsticks.
some of us were very good at this,
some of us used one chopstick,
some of us needed to use two hands!

Spring has sprung! During a 'Forest School' session we looked for signs of Spring.

We have looked closely at daffodils. The class produced this wonderful gallery of their individual interpretation of what they saw. We think they are works of art!
