Thank you for joining us for our sports morning - we hope you had a lovely time!

Phonics -

We have read words with double digraphs and other longer words with 2+ syllables. Some words we have read - hammer, shimmer, rubber, pattern, seven, helmet, timid.

Independent writing - bigger, chair, buzzer, better, dinner, pattern, seven, comic.

Maths -

This week's focus has been on deepening the children's developing automaticity with some number facts. Using rekenreks, we have recapped the following skills -

  • knowing that whole amounts can be split into parts
  • knowing that parts can be combined to make whole amounts, and that the whole is larger than each of its parts
  • knowing the ‘numbers within’ 3 (i.e. that 3 is composed of 2 and 1)
  • knowing doubles facts up to 5
  • knowing the different ‘numbers within’ 10, and naming the parts that make the whole number, e.g. that 10 is composed of 5 and 5, or 6 and 4

Activities for home -

Show 10 using both hands, and able to describe another way to make 10? (e.g. 6 and 4, or 9 and 1)

Show and describe ‘doubles patterns’ on fingers

Topic -

It's been very exciting watching our caterpillars this week! We have read 'The Woolly Bear Caterpillar', explored the life cycle and created our own butterfly pictures using printing, exploring symmetry.
