Maths -
We have focused on further developing the skill of comparing quantities this week, where the children have been encouraged to focus exclusively on the numerosity of sets, without being diverted by size, share of colour. We are noticing when quantities are equal or unequal, and considering how we can manipulate the number of objects in 2 sets to make them equal. Again, language is a key focus and we are reinforcing the language of 'more than', 'fewer than' and 'an equal number' to describe how many objects there are in each set. ‘Fewer than’ is used rather than ‘less than’, as the focus is on countable things.
Topic -
We have given the children different scenarios this week and as a class, chosen who we would have to call in these situations. Some examples include having a poorly pet, having a toothache, getting lost and feeling very poorly. The children have been excellent in giving their answers, demonstrating their broad knowledge of the range of people in our community who can help them, and how.
In PE, we have started a new dance unit. The children are showing excellent co-ordination as they come up with their own dance moves to a beat of 8. Since starting this unit at the beginning of this term, our themes have been under the sea, fireworks, and at the seaside.
We are exploring how we can get creative with crayons over the next few weeks in art. Our first lesson this week had us draw a picture with white crayons then add water colours to see the effect. The children had free range of what they would like to draw and what colour water colours they wanted to use - some fantastic imagination and amazing pictures were made!
