Phonics -

Maths -
We have focused on our understanding of numbers to 10 this week. Starting with subitising, the children have built on their skills of recognising small quantities to 5, before moving on to seeing the 'numbers within' numbers, for example inside 3, there is a 2 and a 1, so 3 is composed of 2 and 1. The children have used their fingers to show representations, as well as counters and rekenreks. This practical understanding of the composition of numbers 1-10 will eventually enable automatic recall of number bonds.
Activities for home -
Use a large hoop and 5 small beanbags for throwing practice. How many beanbags landed in the hoop? How many did not? How many are there altogether?
Look for opportunities to sing songs that feature numbers to 5 and 10. How many have gone/are left?
Topic -
We have looked at pollinators this week, after reading the story Omar, the Bees and Me. We have explored the importance of bees and other pollinators and their role within the ecosystem. We enjoyed a printing activity in Art again, where we printed bubble wrap to create beehives, then added bees onto the picture.
