Weekly News, Summer A, Week 5

              15th May 2026

Announcements: Well, the weather has most certainly taken a bit of a turn this week! We've had hail, thunder, rain and sunshine all in the one day. Please could children come to school with jackets still, as we do aim to be outside as much as we can. The children are loving our new Opal resources and areas in the playground too. Many thanks to everyone able to help on grounds day to make our playground such a happy place to be.

English: This week, we have set our sights on a new genre of writing - instructional - as part of our new class text The Wooly Mammoth. The children have been learning all about imperative (bossy) verbs and how to write detailed, yet specific, instructions fit for the task. This week the children have been writing detailed instructions about how to brush our teeth - look out for those gleaming teeth this weekend! We continue to be so impressed by the children's reading comprehension and ability to identify spelling rules in our learning too. Well done, everyone!

Maths: This week Year 2 have delved into the fabulous world of fractions. The children have been learning about halves and quarters and know how to denote these pictorially and numerically. We know that fractions are equal parts of a whole - as, if they aren't equal someone would say "that's not fair!" (Mrs. Allan had tried to get away with keeping an extra piece of chocolate for herself, but the children quickly corrected her that the parts of her chocolate bar were not equal after all...)

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend, whatever the weather brings.

Mrs Allan, Miss Sumal and Miss Desmarais
