Welcome to our Reception blog! We have had a busy and wonderful first week settling in and getting to know each other. We are so very proud of how well the children have come into school and explored their new learning environment, as well as remembering lots of new routines!
Each week, we'll be posting our phonics, maths and topic learning. Phonics and topic times will begin next week, with maths the week after. Our topic time is a class activity that is linked to our termly topic, our topic this term is 'what makes me, me?' We will also be teaching handwriting, English, music, PDW (personal development and wellbeing), and reading practice will begin in a few weeks time.
Circle times -
There are lots of new names to learn, so we enjoyed introducing ourselves to each other, and our class teddies. Selena the seal lives in Antarctica and Quince the Quokka lives in Australia. These teddies will be sent home with a child each Friday for the weekend with a diary, ready to be returned on the Monday to share their weekend news.
We also spoke about sharing, turn taking and showing safe behaviours at Strathmore. The children really impressed us with their knowledge on sharing and safety! We discussed asking 'can I have that when you're finished?' if we want something that someone else is using, and then waiting for our turn. Sharing is caring, but sharing also means waiting for our turn!
Spare clothes/wellies -
If you haven't already, please bring in spare clothes and wellies, these will be kept in school and sent home at the end of each term.
Questions to ask -
In case you get told 'I didn't do anything today', here are a few suggestions of questions to find out about your child's day:
- What made you smile?
- What was the best game you played?
- Who did you sit with at lunch time?
- Did anyone do anything that made you feel cross?
- What story did you read?
- Who would you like to play with tomorrow?
- Did you learn a new name?
- What was the trickiest thing you had to do?
Tapestry -
Tapestry logins are on their way, we're working hard to upload all the children's profiles and parent emails.
Library -
Australia will visit the library on Thursdays.
Antarctica will visit the library on Fridays.
If you want to keep your book for another week, that is absolutely fine - we visit the library as a class, and the children are free to still look at a book. If a library book is lost at home, we ask for a similar replacement book to be brought in, then a new library book can be taken home.
PE -
PE days are Fridays for both Australia and Antarctica, please ensure trainers are worn.
Climbing frame -
A polite notice that children cannot use the climbing frame in the garden after school. Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a lovely weekend!
