π Year 1 Weekly News π
It has been a busy week in Year 1 as we have brought lots of our learning to a close and celebrated the fantastic progress the children have made this half term. We have completed our English and Maths units, finished sewing our bunting, and brought together all of our learning about materials through our Gingerbread Man investigation.
Next week, we are looking forward to our Autumn Science Day, where we will be celebrating all things autumn through exciting hands-on activities!
π English
This week, the children edited and published their beautiful colour poems, applying everything they have learned this term about sentence writing, presentation and handwriting. We are incredibly proud of the effort they put into their work.
We also revisited some tricky Phase 4 phonics through spooky potion writing and sentence-building activities.
π’ Maths
We have now completed our Place Value within 10 unit. The children consolidated some of the trickier concepts, including:
- Finding missing numbers on a number line
- Comparing numbers using <, > and =
- Estimating and ordering numbers
It has been wonderful to see how much confidence the children have developed with numbers this half term.
π€ Phonics
This week, we revisited Phase 4 phonics and practised reading and spelling words containing adjacent consonants, such as:
- milk and hand (CVCC)
- frog and trip (CCVC)
- crisp and start (CCVCC)
The children have worked hard to blend and segment these more challenging words and are becoming increasingly confident readers and writers.
π΅ Music
Many families have asked about the upcoming Mr Cheadle's Menagerie performance at the Barbican. At the moment, we are continuing to learn our song and are excited to see how it comes together alongside the orchestra.
Unfortunately, due to safeguarding requirements and ticket availability, we are unable to invite any additional parents to attend the performance. However, we will do our very best to record and share elements of the performance afterwards so that you can celebrate this special achievement with your child at home.
π Gentle Reminders
As the weather becomes colder and more unpredictable, please ensure your child comes to school each day with a coat and wellies. This helps them make the most of their OPAL play, whatever the weather!
We hope you all have a wonderful final week before the half-term break.
